Sensex marginally up; Dr. Reddy, ONGC losers

The key domestic benchmark indices remained choppy during the late noon trading session as investors remained cautious ahead of Union Budget and December quarter earnings.

At 14:23 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 26772.63 up by 13.4 points or by 0.05 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8253.1 up by 9.3 points or by 0.11 per cent.

Sentiments of investors also remained pessimistic after the advance estimates of GDP data for fiscal year 2017, indicated a slowdown in growth even though the figures do not take into account the demonetisation impact.

Sensex touched an intraday high of 26860.88 and an intraday low of 26701.18, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 8263 and an intraday low of 8227.75.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2737.25,+1.07%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 502.65,+0.97%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 5661.30,+0.86%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1079.75,+0.66%), State Bank of India (Rs. 247.50,+0.63%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 3069.90,-2.87%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 198.95,-1.73%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 301.00,-1.55%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 914.10,-1.47%), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1492.00,-1.35%), among others.

Among the sectors, Realty index was at 1370.4 up by 15.3 points or by 1.13%. Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 182.10,+5.60%), NBCC (India) Ltd. (Rs. 257.55,+2.55%), Mahindra Lifespace Developers Ltd. (Rs. 363.80,+2.02%), Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 81.05,+1.57%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 320.90,+1.41%),.

On the flip side, Oil&Gas index was at 12483.36 down by -86.43 points or by -0.69%. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 199.00,-1.70%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 654.55,-1.35%), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 343.00,-1.01%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 438.20,-0.97%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 463.50,-0.77%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2922 , shares advanced were 1646 while 1147 shares declined and 129 were unchanged.
