The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) has operationalised a comprehensive Internal Audit Portal, marking a major step towards digital-first governance and enhanced institutional oversight. The platform replaces manual audit tracking with a real-time, centralised digital system aimed at improving transparency and accountability.

Developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), the portal was reviewed in the presence of MoRD Secretary Shailesh Kumar Singh, Chief Controller of Accounts Akhilesh Jha, and other senior officials.

Enhanced top-level oversight

A key highlight of the portal is Secretary-level access, enabling direct and real-time monitoring of audit performance across departments. This feature allows senior leadership to take quicker, data-driven decisions and overcome administrative delays.

Shailesh Kumar Singh said the platform will strengthen oversight mechanisms and ensure timely action on audit findings, making governance more efficient and impactful for rural development.

Key features of the portal

Real-time dashboard: Provides visibility into audit status, action taken reports (ATRs), and pending compliance

Automated escalation system: Flags delays and ensures accountability at every level

Role-based access: Maintains data security while enabling seamless coordination across departments

Centralised tracking: Monitors audit observations from field offices to headquarters

Driving better governance

The portal is expected to significantly reduce compliance gaps by speeding up the resolution of audit observations. It will enable continuous, year-round monitoring instead of periodic reviews and support informed decision-making through data-driven insights.

The initiative aligns with the government’s Digital India vision, ensuring that funds allocated for rural development are managed with greater transparency, efficiency, and fiscal discipline.
