The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) has inaugurated a Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) field training and demonstration centre at Burari plains in Delhi to strengthen preparedness for radiological and nuclear emergencies.
The facility, inaugurated by DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V Kamat, will function as a specialised CBRN Centre of Excellence under the Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (INMAS).
The centre houses advanced facilities including radiological and nuclear test beds, heavy ion research infrastructure, emergency medical response systems and real-time field response units.
According to DRDO, the centre will provide training and workshops for personnel from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, National Disaster Management Authority and other agencies involved in disaster preparedness and crisis response.
