Bank lending rates remain stable, MCLR eases in June: RBI Data

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data showed that the weighted average lending rate (WALR) on fresh rupee loans by scheduled commercial banks remained largely stable at 8.51% in May 2026, compared with 8.50% in April, while the WALR on outstanding loans eased marginally to 8.97% from 8.98%.

The one-year median MCLR declined to 8.50% in June 2026 from 8.65% in May. Meanwhile, the share of External Benchmark Linked Rate (EBLR) loans in outstanding floating-rate rupee loans increased to 67.6% at the end of March 2026, reflecting the continued shift toward benchmark-linked lending.

On the deposit side, the weighted average domestic term deposit rate on fresh rupee deposits rose to 5.84% in May from 5.79% in April, while the rate on outstanding deposits eased slightly to 6.57% from 6.59%.
