India and Japan have unveiled a joint framework to strengthen cooperation in Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a focus on building a safe, secure, inclusive, and innovation-driven AI ecosystem. The two countries agreed to enhance collaboration in AI governance, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, research, talent development, and AI applications across the Indo-Pacific and the Global South.
The joint statement also outlined plans to expand cooperation on AI research, data centres, semiconductors, multilingual AI models, and public-private partnerships. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to promote responsible AI development, deepen industry-academia collaboration, and facilitate the exchange of skilled AI professionals, including the target of bringing 500 highly skilled Indian AI professionals to Japan by 2030.
