The Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex ended off their day's highs, dragged by weakness in IT and banking stocks amid volatility linked to election results.

As per trends at market close, the Bharatiya Janata Party was on course for a strong showing in West Bengal and Assam. In Kerala, the United Democratic Front maintained an edge, while in Tamil Nadu, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam emerged as a surprise performer against established parties.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 77269.4 up by 355.9 points or by 0.46 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24119.3 up by 121.75 points or by 0.51 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 77910.75 and intraday low of 76939.54 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24290.2 and intraday low of 24004.75

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1742.85,+5.30%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2309.05,+2.60%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1462.95,+2.24%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 4100.20,+2.18%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 251.95,+2.09%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1826.90,-3.14%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 371.85,-2.82%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2430.75,-1.73%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 311.00,-1.25%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1168.40,-1.11%), among others.
