Indian equity markets are expected to begin the June 1 trading session on a steady to mildly positive footing, supported by encouraging cues from GIFT Nifty, which indicated a firm start in early trade.
In the previous session, domestic benchmark indices closed in the red after a choppy and range-bound day of trading. Selling pressure was witnessed across most sectors, while information technology stocks emerged as one of the few pockets of strength and helped limit broader market losses.
On Friday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 74775.74 down by -1092.06 points or by -1.44 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23547.75 down by -359.4 points or by -1.5 %.
On the global front, market cues remained largely supportive, with South Korean equities leading gains in the Asia-Pacific region. The Kospi surged to a new record high, extending the positive momentum seen on Wall Street in the previous session.
Trading across the broader Asian markets was mixed. Japan's Nikkei 225 advanced nearly 1 per cent, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 traded marginally lower.
On the US front, major indices ended the previous session in positive territory. The Dow Jones Industrial Average posted the strongest gains, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite also closed higher, reflecting continued investor optimism.
