Post-Session: Market snaps four-day winning streak ahead of RBI rate decision

Indian benchmark indices ended lower on August 4, snapping their four-session winning streak as profit booking weighed on market sentiment. Investors remained cautious ahead of the Reserve Bank of India's monetary policy decision due on Wednesday, while weekly derivatives expiry and heightened volatility following the implementation of the NSE's new Closing Auction Session (CAS) also kept markets under pressure.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 78428.95 down by -210.08 points or by -0.27 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24614.9 down by -159.4 points or by -0.64 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 79143.15 and intraday low of 78211.87 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24703.9 and intraday low of 24427.95

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Trent Ltd. (Rs. 3070.00,+1.15%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 1153.00,+1.06%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 392.00,+0.94%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 190.20,+0.58%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3405.00,+0.58%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2084.00,-1.70%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 341.95,-1.63%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 739.95,-1.48%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1293.00,-1.22%), InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 5330.00,-1.09%), among others.
