Indices trim early gains ahead of F&O expiry

The Indian benchmark indices continued to trade in green in this afternoon session ahead of expiry of December derivative contracts, tracking sharp rally in global peers. Among sectors, all of them are in the green, with maximum gains visible among banks, consumption, IT, and metals, among others.

Among key stocks, the shares of Selan Exploration Technology moved higher by 16 per cent after the board approved buyback of equity shares at a price not exceeding Rs 300 per share. The company said the buyback will be for an aggregate amount of Rs 250 million from the open market through stock exchange mechanism. Also, the shares of KNR Constructions (KNRCL) hit a three-month high of Rs 225, up 8 per cent on the expectation of strong earnings growth over the medium-term.

At 14:49 hours, the 30-share benchmark rose up by 183.04 points or by 0.51 percent to 35832.98 and then NSE Nifty was at 10782.45 up by 52.6 points or by 0.49 per cent. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 36041.24 and intraday low of 35781.95 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10834.2 and intraday low of 10764.45.

Topping the gainers list of the BSE Sensex were were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 661.90,+2.68%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1117.40,+1.86%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 1916.90,+1.45%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 280.00,+1.19%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1573.45,+1.04%), among others. Among the top losers of the BSE Sensex were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 316.85,-1.35%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 92.00,-1.18%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3153.80,-1.01%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2714.30,-0.86%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 194.50,-0.71%), among others.

On sector front, IT index was at 14106.52 up by 245.81 points or by 1.77%. Datamatics Global Services Ltd. (Rs. 109.60,+4.23%), Sasken Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 683.00,+3.46%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 661.90,+2.68%), eClerx Services Ltd. (Rs. 1105.55,+2.62%), Hexaware Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 323.45,+2.45%),. Meanwhile, Auto index was at 20768.54 down by -25.34 points or by -0.12%. TVS Motor Company Ltd. (Rs. 550.90,-1.56%), Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (Rs. 897.90,-1.20%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3153.80,-1.01%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2714.30,-0.86%), Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd. (Rs. 162.35,-0.82%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2815 , shares advanced were 1462 while 1163 shares declined and 190 were unchanged.
