Sensex climbs 221 pts, Nifty above 10,820; HDIL jumps 5%

Indian benchmark indices opened higher on Friday taking cues from their Asian peers. Asian stocks gained on Friday after Wall Street ended volatile trade in the green, adding to the big advances of the previous session. All sectoral indices, barring metals, are trading in the green, with maximum gains visible among banks, pharmaceuticals and automobiles. Meanwhile, the rupee rebounded by 30 paise to open at 70.05 against the US dollar on Friday. In the previous session, the domestic tumbled by 29 paise to 70.35 amid strengthening of the greenback even as crude oil prices eased. Whereas, Oil prices jumped as much as 3 per cent but growth in US crude stockpiles and ongoing concerns about the global economy kept markets under pressure.

At 9:26 hour, BSE SENSEX was trading at 36029.13 up by 221.85 points or by 0.62 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 10820.95 up by 41.15 points or by 0.38 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 181.80,+1.82%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 92.40,+1.37%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 417.90,+1.36%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1970.45,+1.22%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 198.25,+1.17%). On the flip side the top losers of the BSE Sensex were Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 240.15,-3.81%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 147.20,-0.54%), among others.

On the sectoral front, the gainers were Housing Development & Infrastructure Ltd. (Rs. 25.35,+7.19%), Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 88.95,+2.24%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 460.70,+1.59%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 177.95,+1.08%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 679.60,+0.88%), PC Jeweller Ltd. (Rs. 89.20,+4.94%), Symphony Ltd. (Rs. 1113.90,+2.02%), Blue Star Ltd. (Rs. 620.25,+1.59%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 900.65,+1.41%), VIP Industries Ltd. (Rs. 512.75,+1.19%).

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 1214 , shares advanced were 883 while 273 shares declined and 58 were unchanged.
