Sensex up 95 pts, Nifty reclaims 10,900; Jet Airways gains 2%

Following global cues, the domestic equity market opened half a per cent higher on Monday. Asian stocks crept higher on Monday as hints of progress on the Sino-US trade standoff provided a rare glimmer of optimism in what has been a rough year-end for equities globally. The announcement of macroeconomic numbers, global cues, movement of the rupee and crude oil will dictate the trend in Indian stock. The sectoral gainers indices include automobiles, metals, and pharmaceuticals. The Indian rupee has opened at 69.80 per US dollar against previous close of 69.94 per dollar. The shares of Jet Airways were higher by 2 percent amid media reports that it will be seeking a loan of Rs 1,500 crore from State Bank of India. The shares of non-banking financial companies were higher in trade on Monday morning.

At 9:37 AM, BSE SENSEX was trading at 36171.52 up by 94.8 points or by 0.26 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 10900.65 up by 40.75 points or by 0.38 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 173.25,+1.43%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 520.90,+1.40%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 93.10,+1.25%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 201.80,+1.20%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 319.30,+0.98%). On the flip side the top losers of the BSE Sensex were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 149.65,-0.53%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 196.90,-0.43%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1239.40,-0.42%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1972.50,-0.38%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 360.95,-0.03%).

On the sectoral front, the gainers in metal of BSE Metal index was at 11831.07 up by 158.44 points or by 1.36%. JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 303.00,+1.75%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 64.65,+1.73%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 226.90,+1.61%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 163.55,+1.58%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 521.55,+1.53%). Accompanied with BSE Realty index which was at 1817.83 up by 14.83 points or by 0.82%. Housing Development & Infrastructure Ltd. (Rs. 26.35,+5.40%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 220.00,+2.80%), Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 88.35,+1.26%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 673.25,+1.04%), Sunteck Realty Ltd. (Rs. 350.50,+0.89%) .

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 1584 , shares advanced were 1058 while 453 shares declined and 73 were unchanged.
