Sensex, Nifty choppy; Varun Beverages jumps 15%, Centrum Capital up 5%

Indian benchmark indices were trading lower on Tuesday morning. The Indian rupee trimmed some of its morning gains as it is trading higher by 9 paise at 69.68 per dollar against previous close 69.77.The rupee is trading around the 70 mark to the dollar and crude oil has crashed from its recent high of $80 per barrel to below $55 a barrel. The stock was up 5 per cent at Rs 828 in an otherwise subdued market. The company is a key player in beverage industry and one of the largest franchisee of PepsiCo in the world (outside USA). Centrum Capital shares gained 5 per cent intraday Tuesday after the company completed acquisition of supply chain finance business from L&T Finance. The shares of Varun Beverages (VBL) were trading higher for the fifth straight day on Tuesday.

At 11:15 hours, the BSE SENSEX was trading at 35969.87 down by -98.46 points or by -0.27 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 10830.5 down by -32.05 points or by -0.3 per cent. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 36224 and intraday low of 35912.59 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10885.3 and intraday low of 10813.65.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 184.25,+1.38%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 436.10,+1.27%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 627.20,+1.19%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2734.00,+0.57%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 1899.35,+0.31%). The top losers of the BSE Sensex were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1577.50,-1.35%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 796.70,-0.87%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 517.55,-0.82%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 197.50,-0.75%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1364.95,-0.64%).

Sector wise, the BSE Realty index was at 1835.8 up by 37.97 points or by 2.11%. Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 230.50,+5.08%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 670.60,+3.16%), Mahindra Lifespace Developers Ltd. (Rs. 400.00,+2.05%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 181.10,+2.03%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 454.00,+1.95%). On the flip side, BSE FMCG index was at 11788.37 down by -40.7 points or by -0.34%. Ruchi Soya Industries Ltd. (Rs. 8.59,-4.98%), Pioneer Distilleries Ltd. (Rs. 171.80,-2.11%), Apex Frozen Foods Ltd. (Rs. 368.00,-2.09%), McLeod Russel (India) Ltd. (Rs. 116.10,-2.07%), Sanwaria Consumer Ltd. (Rs. 11.12,-1.77%).

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2205 , shares advanced were 1187 while 908 shares declined and 110 were unchanged.
