D-Street extends fall, Nifty tests 10,720; JSPL down 4%

The benchmark indices continue to stay weak, trading low over 0.5 per cent, in this Thursday afternoon session. The Indian rupee has recovered from day's low but trading lower by 17 paise at 70.34 per dollar against Wednesday closing 70.17. Rupee fell for the second successive session following broad strength in the greenback and after global crude oil prices rallied after plunging in the past few sessions. On the domestic front, no major economic data is expected to be released but from the US market participants will be keeping an eye on the employment and manufacturing PMI to gauge a view for the greenback. Metal along with the Media index were underperforming dragged by JSPL which fell 4 percent followed by NMDC, Coal India, Hindustan Copper, Hindalco Industries and Tata Steel. Indices weighed down by HDFC twins, L&T, Infosys and TCS.

At 13:21 hours, the BSE SENSEX was at 35704.27 down by -187.25 points or by -0.52 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 10720.8 down by -71.7 points or by -0.66 per cent. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 35999.66 and intraday low of 35626.99 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10814.05 and intraday low of 10700.3.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 367.15,+0.77%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 2631.75,+0.58%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2704.65,+0.57%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1388.80,+0.52%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 7308.10,+0.49%). The top losers of the BSE Sensex were Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 143.10,-3.05%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 728.70,-1.73%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1944.90,-1.72%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1405.45,-1.47%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 486.95,-1.40%).

Sectorally, BSE FMCG index was at 11743.84 up by 26.79 points or by 0.23%. Hatsun Agro Products Ltd. (Rs. 679.55,+8.45%), Avadh Sugar & Energy Ltd. (Rs. 385.50,+2.91%), DFM Foods Ltd. (Rs. 215.00,+2.38%), Dhampur Sugar Mills Ltd. (Rs. 164.30,+2.37%), Dwarikesh Sugar Industries Ltd. (Rs. 22.80,+2.01%). On the other hand, BSE Oil&Gas index was at 13473.7 down by -165.43 points or by -1.21%. Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 143.10,-3.05%), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 133.95,-2.37%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 250.25,-2.34%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 353.15,-1.45%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 351.25,-0.07%).

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2602 , shares advanced were 1047 while 1401 shares declined and 154 were unchanged.
