Sensex cracks 330 points on weak rupee; Nifty breaks 10,678

The Indian benchmark indices have extended the earlier loses in this Thursday afternoon session. Indian rupee is trading marginally lower by 70.23 against 70.15 per dollar. The shares of Nestle India fell from the day’s high after Supreme Court revived the class action suit filed by the Central Government against the company’s Maggi noodles, while setting aside NCDRC order. After rising over 4 per cent in the morning session, the stock pared gains and was trading up by 1.92 per cent at noon. The shares of Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals (down 1.75 per cent), Symphony (down 0.77 per cent) and TTK Prestige (down 0.21 per cent) were the worst performers in the index.

At 14:18 hours, the BSE SENSEX was trading at 35560.67 down by -330.85 points or by -0.92 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 10678.55 down by -113.95 points or by -1.06 per cent. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 35999.66 and intraday low of 35535.72 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10814.05 and intraday low of 10674.15

The top gainers list of the BSE Sensex includes Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2704.30,+0.55%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1386.75,+0.38%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1789.25,+0.29%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 948.00,+0.23%). The top losers of the BSE Sensex were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 142.15,-3.69%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 719.30,-2.99%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1938.60,-2.04%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 484.75,-1.84%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1400.55,-1.81%).

Among the sectors, BSE Realty index was at 1819.09 up by 5.66 points or by 0.31%. Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 677.00,+1.23%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 234.55,+1.16%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 174.30,+0.81%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 450.95,+0.18%), Phoenix Mills Ltd. (Rs. 575.25,+0.10%). Whereas, BSE Metal index was at 11133.34 down by -213.28 points or by -1.88%. Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 148.40,-6.11%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 94.00,-2.99%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 282.65,-2.10%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 210.20,-1.96%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 62.95,-1.95%).

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2716 , shares advanced were 1000 while 1546 shares declined and 170 were unchanged.
