Sensex slips again, falls 100 points; Jet Airways skids 11%

Indian benchmark indices slipped after rising in late morning. Equity benchmarks indices were trading lower on Thursday on account of selling in frontline bluechip counters. Among sectors, there is a flat trend across all names. Pain is visible among infrastructure and metals. The shares of Jet Airways (India) slipped 5% to Rs 251 on Thursday, falling 11% in the past two trading days, after the rating agency ICRA on Wednesday downgraded the airline’s Rs 10,963 crore loan and debenture ratings. The shares of SMS Lifesciences India hit a new high of Rs 683 per share, gaining 16% on Thursday in an otherwise range-bound market. The stock has surged 39% in past two trading days.

At 11:18 hours, the BSE SENSEX was trading at 35763.72 down by -127.8 points or by -0.36 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 10752.95 down by -39.55 points or by -0.37 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 366.50,+0.59%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1792.95,+0.50%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 7308.45,+0.50%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 950.50,+0.49%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 442.45,+0.49%). The top losers of the BSE Sensex were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 143.55,-2.74%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 486.05,-1.58%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 731.55,-1.34%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1953.25,-1.30%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 233.95,-1.29%).

Sector wise BSE CDS index was trading at 20737 up by 65.36 points or by 0.32%. Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 234.80,+1.45%), VIP Industries Ltd. (Rs. 508.75,+0.89%), PC Jeweller Ltd. (Rs. 83.35,+0.66%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 935.00,+0.35%), Whirlpool of India Ltd. (Rs. 1400.75,+0.29%). On the flip side BSE Oil&Gas index was at 13446.07 down by -193.06 points or by -1.42%. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 247.75,-3.32%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 143.55,-2.74%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 349.10,-2.58%), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 134.00,-2.33%), Castrol India Ltd. (Rs. 147.00,-0.20%).

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2254 , shares advanced were 1009 while 1100 shares declined and 145 were unchanged.
