Sensex down 76 points; Bata India, Torrent Pharma hit new highs

The Indian benchmark indices was trading in the red in this Thursday afternoon session. Energy was the underperforming sector dragged by HPCL, BPCL, Indian Oil Corporation, ONGC and Reliance Industries. The shares of Bata India, Info Edge (India), Linde India and Torrent Pharmaceuticals have hit their respective new highs in an otherwise range-bound market on Thursday. Linde India has rallied 10 per cent to Rs 759 on back of a 10-fold jump in trading volumes. Torrent Pharma was up 3 per cent to Rs 1,880, surpassing its previous high of Rs 1,872 recorded on September 7, 2018 in intra-day trade. In past one month, the stock of drug firm gained 11 per cent, as compared to a 3 per cent rise in the benchmark index.

At 13:14 hours, the BSE SENSEX was trading at 36137.35 down by -75.56 points or by -0.21 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 10818.3 down by -36.85 points or by -0.34 per cent. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 36269.31 and intraday low of 36091.05 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10859.35 and intraday low of 10811.45.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 148.85,+1.85%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 186.15,+1.67%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 98.10,+1.19%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2723.35,+1.03%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 732.45,+0.87%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1567.50,-2.08%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 657.70,-1.84%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 143.30,-1.55%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1223.00,-1.28%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 443.20,-0.94%), among others.

Sector wise, BSE Realty index was at 1874.14 up by 12.01 points or by 0.64%. DLF Ltd. (Rs. 185.70,+2.03%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 465.30,+1.96%), Housing Development & Infrastructure Ltd. (Rs. 28.70,+1.59%), Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 88.85,+1.08%), Sobha Ltd. (Rs. 484.25,+0.97%). On the flip side, BSE Bankex index was at 30930.81 down by -235.68 points or by -0.76%. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1567.50,-2.08%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 657.70,-1.84%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1223.00,-1.28%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 378.75,-0.85%), Federal Bank Ltd. (Rs. 95.95,-0.72%).

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2572 , shares advanced were 1245 while 1158 shares declined and 169 were unchanged.
