Post-Session: Indices extend rally, Sensex surges 595 pts

Extending their rally, the domestic benchmark indices ended around 2 per cent higher on Thursday - the last day of the futures and options (F&O) contracts for May series.

Financial stocks continued their upward journey with the Nifty Bank index climbing 2.45 per cent to 19,170 levels.

Of 12 constituents, 8 advanced and 4 declined. Besides, auto, IT, and metal stocks too lifted the indices higher.

Shares of UFlex surged as much as 17 per cent to Rs 203 during the day on the BSE after the company announced that it has developed a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Coverall 'Flex Protect' in joint collaboration with lIT-Delhi and INMAS, DRDO, Delhi. Sun Pharma ended nearly 2 per cent higher after the company reported a 17 per cent year-on-year (YoY) decline in its consolidated profit before tax (PBT) at Rs 577 crore for the March quarter.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 32200.59 up by 595.37 points or by 1.88 % and then NSE Nifty was at 9490.1 up by 175.15 points or by 1.88 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 32267.23 and intraday low of 31641.77 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9511.25 and intraday low of 9336.5

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 903.05,+6.17%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2294.25,+5.52%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 386.80,+4.95%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 945.05,+4.56%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 5470.55,+4.37%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 190.55,-0.83%), State Bank of India (Rs. 158.30,-0.19%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 562.70,-0.05%), among others.

Among the sectors, CGS index was at 12027.35 up by 584.38 points or by 5.11%. Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 26.85,+6.34%), Havells India Ltd. (Rs. 499.80,+6.24%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 903.05,+6.17%), Siemens Ltd. (Rs. 1072.05,+5.37%), Finolex Cables Ltd. (Rs. 205.65,+4.98%),.

On the flip side, CDS index was at 27288.96 down by -104.13 points or by -0.38%. PC Jeweller Ltd. (Rs. 10.70,-0.28%), Rajesh Exports Ltd. (Rs. 505.95,-0.17%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2743 , shares advanced were 1668 while 880 shares declined and 195 were unchanged.
