Post-Session: Sensex, Nifty end lower ahead of AGR hearing

The domestic stock market ended over 1 per cent lower on Friday amid selling in financial counters ahead of the hearing of adjusted gross revenue (AGR) case in the Supreme Court. Further, weak global cues such as lacklustre Chinese economic data and confusion over US fiscal stimulus, too, weighed on investor sentiment.

Global shares dipped on Friday after lacklustre Chinese economic data and worries about a delay in US fiscal stimulus discouraged some investors from taking on risk. European shares were also dragged lower by a hit to travel stocks after Britain added more European countries to its quarantine list. The pan-European STOXX 600 was down 0.7 per cent, although on track to gain for a second straight week.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 37877.34 down by -433.15 points or by -1.13 % and then NSE Nifty was at 11178.4 down by -122.05 points or by -1.08 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 38540.57 and intraday low of 37654.92 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11366.25 and intraday low of 11111.45

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 531.45,+2.04%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 88.40,+1.38%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 418.45,+1.26%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 1102.30,+0.43%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 953.50,+0.24%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 435.45,-2.81%), State Bank of India (Rs. 196.45,-2.68%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 614.90,-2.60%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 3330.90,-2.57%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 196.50,-2.48%), among others.

Among the sectors,Metal index was at 8742.41 up by 67.93 points or by 0.78%. JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 265.40,+2.65%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 131.80,+2.21%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 418.45,+1.26%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 183.85,+0.19%),.

Auto index was at 17297.68 down by -444.08 points or by -2.5%. Eicher Motors Ltd. (Rs. 20129.65,-7.11%), Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1310.65,-5.36%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 124.55,-5.00%), Bosch Ltd. (Rs. 13722.80,-4.73%), MRF Ltd. (Rs. 61488.50,-3.91%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3124 , shares advanced were 1220 while 1731 shares declined and 173 were unchanged.
