Rajnath Singh on Tuesday released the document titled ‘Defence Forces Vision 2047: A Roadmap for a Future-Ready Indian Military’ at an event held in South Block, New Delhi. The comprehensive blueprint, prepared by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, aims to transform India’s armed forces into a modern, integrated and technology-driven military aligned with the country’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

The vision document lays out key strategic reforms, capability enhancements and organisational restructuring required to address evolving geopolitical, technological and security challenges. It envisages the development of an integrated, multi-domain and agile military force capable of deterring adversaries, managing the full spectrum of conflicts and safeguarding India’s expanding strategic interests amid rapidly changing global and regional dynamics.

A major focus of the roadmap is enhancing jointness and synergy among the Army, Navy and Air Force to ensure better coordination in planning, operations and capability development. The blueprint also underscores the need to adopt advanced technologies, encourage innovation and modernise training frameworks to prepare the forces for future warfare.

The document places strong emphasis on self-reliance in defence manufacturing, promoting the development and adoption of indigenous technologies tailored to India’s security needs. Strengthening domestic defence production and technological capabilities is expected to improve operational preparedness while supporting national economic growth.

It proposes a phased roadmap with clearly defined short-, medium- and long-term capability targets. This structured approach is intended to guide the development of critical military assets, institutional reforms and strategic partnerships necessary for building a world-class defence force.

Highlighting the complexity of emerging security challenges, the roadmap calls for a whole-of-nation approach that integrates military strength with diplomatic, technological and economic power to safeguard national interests. The initiative aims to ensure that by the centenary of Independence, India possesses a globally respected, technologically advanced and combat-ready military that supports the vision of a strong and resilient nation.

Senior defence leadership, including Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Naval Staff Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Air Staff AP Singh, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, and Vice Chief of the Army Staff Pushpendra Singh, were present at the event.
