Jindal Steel has completed its 6 MTPA expansion at the Angul Integrated Steel Complex in Odisha with the commissioning of the third Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF-3) of 3 MTPA. With this, the plant’s total crude steel capacity has doubled to 12 MTPA, making it one of India’s largest single-location integrated steel facilities.

The expansion marks the full operationalisation of BOF-2 and BOF-3, along with key upstream and downstream infrastructure, including coke ovens, the CRM complex, and other critical facilities. This ensures seamless integration and efficient ramp-up of the expanded capacity.

Following this development, the company has successfully completed its capacity expansion at Angul from 6 MTPA to 12 MTPA within the planned timeline. On a consolidated basis, Jindal Steel’s overall crude steel capacity has now increased to 15.6 MTPA, including 3.6 MTPA at its Raigarh plant.

The enhanced capacity is expected to boost production volumes and improve utilisation levels, supporting revenue growth and delivering operating leverage. With greater scale and integration, the company aims to optimise costs, strengthen margins, and improve overall profitability, while contributing to India’s push for self-reliance in steel production under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
