Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty surged on Wednesday, driven by strong global market momentum and a sharp fall in crude oil prices after the US and Iran announced a two-week ceasefire.

Investor sentiment remained upbeat as easing geopolitical tensions supported buying interest across sectors.

Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) unanimously kept the policy interest rate unchanged and retained a neutral stance, in line with expectations.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 77562.9 up by 2946.32 points or by 3.95 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23997.35 up by 873.7 points or by 3.78 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 77635.54 and intraday low of 77042.15 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24025.15 and intraday low of 23828.5

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 4616.60,+8.16%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 4007.35,+7.64%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 915.45,+7.03%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3210.70,+6.79%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1332.80,+6.56%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1450.85,-1.53%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1713.60,-0.29%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 294.85,-0.20%), among others.
